Nuclear Innovation Research Office (NIRO)

Katherine Eilbeck is a senior advisor to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

NIRO provides independent, strategic and technical advice to UK Government with the aim of de-risking investment, informing policy, and enabling maximum value for money to the UK taxpayer on all issues surrounding nuclear power, medical isotopes and fusion.

 

With over 25 years of experience in the nuclear industry, Katherine supports DESNZ on Fuel Policy and Low Cost Nuclear. Katherine has held a variety of strategic and technical roles. At Sellafield Ltd Katherine held many prominent roles, including; Head of Technical Assurance (where she managed waste and decommissioning, alongside ensuring that the company had sufficient scientific capability and knowledge to deliver its mission) and Head of R&D. As Head of R&D Katherine oversaw significant R&D programmes in areas such as robotics, data science, waste treatment, manufacturing and sustainability.

 

Katherine is a chartered scientist with a PhD in geochemistry. She has sat on several national and international committees and is an experienced presenter.
