Nick Hanigan is a Technical Advisor to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
Nick has 37 years of experience in the nuclear, pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries. Previously, Nick was Chief Customer Officer for UKNNL responsible for all customer relationships and nuclear sites across the UKNNL estate. Nick has also held the role of Director for Health and Nuclear Medicine, working on creating indigenous supplies of medical isotopes for cancer treatment.
Nick has worked in the United States on two major Department of Energy projects. At Idaho, he was Technical Manager for the Advance Mixed Waste Treatment Plant and following this he worked at Hanford as an area project manager on the River Protection Project.
After returning to the UK, Nick has held numerous roles managing the delivering of R&D projects within UKNNL and its predecessor companies. Most of this work involved supporting customer’s existing operations or developing and deploying novel and innovative technology.
Nick was a member of the British Geological Survey board providing advice on how to change the governance of BGS.
Nick is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers.
