Dan Mathers is the Executive Director of the Nuclear Innovation and Research Office.
Dan has 25 years nuclear industry experience working primarily in research and development. His previous post of business leader for the UK’s National Nuclear Laboratory had accountability for business development, delivery of contract R&D, and capability management. Dan has an MSc in Engineering Hydraulics from Newcastle University and has led teams in developing advanced nuclear fuels, nuclear computing technology, and new detector systems through collaboration with universities and international laboratories. His focus in leading NIRO includes advising Government on Advanced Nuclear Innovation, fuel and fuel cycles and supporting the work of the Nuclear Innovation and Research Advisory Board (NIRAB).
Dan is Chair of the NEA Nuclear Science Committee and a UK representative on IAEA Technical Working Group on SMRs.
