Martin Townsend is a Senior Technical Advisor to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
At NIRO Martin provides DESNZ with key support on the Medical Radioisotopes Innovation Programme (MRIP) and Non-Proliferation Study. Martin seconded from UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) in June 2022. At UKAEA Martin was involved in the word’s largest nuclear fusion experiment, Joint European Torus (JET). He has also worked on the UK’s national fusion experiment, Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST) and was the UK’s industrial liaison officer for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). Martin has over 30 years of experience in the development of technology for the High Energy Physics, Accelerator and Medical Markets, alongside extensive international University/Laboratory and Industry collaboration.
Martin has an MBA in technology management and is a chartered engineer and Fellow of the IET.
