Terrestiral energy have signed a manufacturing and supply contract with Westinghouse subsidary Springfield Fuels Ltd to build a pilot plant at the Springfields nuclear fuel site in Preston Lancashire. The project will cover deconversion, fabrication, packaging and transport of standard enrichment uranium fuel avoiding the supply chain issues of HALEU. The pilot plant will optimise the deconversion of UF6 to UF4 utilising Springfields’ expertise in this area. Terrestrial energy say this partnership will strengthen its Western supply chain and a key component to deploying its molten salt reactor technology.
