The UK government released a statement of guiding principles for nuclear fuel supply that will be utilised on the next generation of nuclear reactors for civil nuclear fuel use within the UK. The government statement sets out the UK position on advanced nuclear fuels, limiting to uranium-based fuels with an enrichment level for up to 20% 235U. The statement also requires all reactor fuels to be responsibly managed throughout its full lifecycle through to ultimate disposal in a geological disposal facility and source fuel materials from secure allied countries.
