The UK is taking a progressive step in its quest to rollout clean, homegrown power, with Rolls-Royce SMR selected as the preferred bidder to partner with Great British Energy – Nuclear to develop small modular reactors. In this spending review period, the government has pledged over £2.5 million for the small modular reactor programme, potentially supporting up to 3,000 new skilled jobs and powering the equivalent of 3 million homes.
This announcement marks the beginning of the UK’s “golden age of nuclear with the biggest building programme in a generation”.
