On the 31st March 2026, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales confirmed that the Holtec SMR-300 nuclear reactor design has completed Step 2 of the Generic Design Assessment, meaning it has successfully passed assessments examining the fundamental adequacy of the reactor design along with its safety, security, safeguards and environmental protection documentation.
