ONR publishes findings of regulatory sandboxing to develop AI capability

The Office for Nuclear Regulation completed its project on regulatory sandboxing and accelerating safe and secure deployment of AI in nuclear. This project was funded by the government’s Regulatory Innovation Office Artificial Intelligence Capability Fund. Using AI in computer vision, data classification and sandboxing the aim of this project was to explore how regulation  can support the nuclear industry to safely benefit from the advantages of AI.

This project was led in collaboration with the Environment Agency, the Health and Safety Executive, the Defence Nuclear Safety Regulator and major industry partners such as Rolls-Royce Submarines, NNB Generation Company (Hinkley Point C), Sellafield Limited, and Nuclear Restoration Services Limited.
